.
Besonderen Dank geht dabei an yks (

"Nothing's Final"
So...it's finally done. I can't even remember exactly when i started working on this project,
but i guess it must be be something like 2 years ago. Initially it was planned as a pure
fragmovie, but in the end it turned out as a frag/style combination. Mainly because i love
editing in After Effects, doing colour corrections and all the little animations thus creating
a more style than content based result and on the other hand just a lack of proper demos...
The few frags that i could get out of the demos i had are pretty average and nothing special,
though more like simple and clean, no pure luckshots. They're from many different cpma modes:
1v1, FFA, CA and DA and even some from Instagib.
I even ruined some of the frags, you can't really see the enemy model because of my way of
colour correcting. The whole movie is pretty dark and grungy, but that was exactly the style
i was looking for. I really like it like that and this is also the reason why i added the film
damage effects, added some noise and crackle to the audio tracks and did the heavy colour
corrections. I wanted to achieve this kinda like old film look, but with some saturation left.
Q3 isn't the newest game anymore, so i thougt this should fit well

After i finished the fragpart i noticed that the whole thing was too short. So i decided to add
some stylish eyecandy sequences and a trickjump. These sequences are all captured in separate
layers (map, model, skybox, items) for maximum editing possibilities, like replacing the skybox or
completely changing the colour appearance of a map.
This sounds rather simple, but trust me, it's a lot of work. The moviemakers know what i'm
talking about, and i think they're almost the only ones recognizing how much work went into this
project.
To sum it all up, i think this movie is a love or hate thing. For some there's not enough
content, for some it's too boring because of the heavy slomotions, some might be irritated by
the film damge... but i also think there are some people who will really enjoy this movie.
It's all about style. And the love for a special game and a special mod...

Get the VLC Media Player. On some systems the video might look bleached and too bright.
You can fix that by adjusting the brightness slider in VLC's VideoFX panel until the
blacktones become really black.
How it was done:
The graffiti intro was made completely in After Effects. No 3D applications were used.
The Quake stuff was captured in q3mme at 160 fps, rendered to .avi's with 80 fps in VirtualDub,
and imported into After Effects. In AE i made the colour corrections and added the film effects
in 2 separate passes. The custom medals were made separately in Photshop, then animated in AE
and imported in the final colour corrections step. After all, i put the whole thing together in
Vegas and synced the clips to the music. Only the style- and trickjumppart were edited and synced
in AE, because i got more control over the transitions in AE.
It's a pretty long-winded way like this, but this is my first complete movie and i learned a lot
about workflow for the next one!
